Responsible ARTistry, Inc.

Mahoganee and Andre Amiger are a husband-and-wife creative team and the co-founders of Responsible ARTistry, Inc., a nonprofit that uses music and the arts to help young people find their voice, build confidence, and connect with the stories of their communities. Their work brings together professional artistry and lived experience. Andre is a three-time stroke survivor, and Mahoganee has walked beside him as his wife, caregiver, and creative partner. Throughout that journey, they have used music and the arts as tools for healing, expression, and connection.

That understanding now shapes every classroom, studio, and stage they share. Through Responsible ARTistry, they led a Gullah Geechee summer camp with the International African American Museum (IAAM), where students wrote an original song now featured on the organization’s YouTube page, and a 16-week residency with the Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, whose completed song project is available on all streaming platforms.

Their role as stewards of Gullah Geechee memory has also earned national recognition. Both artists are currently Featured Culture Keepers in ROOTED: An Ecology of Gullah Geechee Memory Along the Coast, a digital exhibit by the National Parks Conservation Association and the Park Institute of America, and both are listed on the SCAC Arts Directory.

Together, they approach their work with compassion, respect for individual needs, and an understanding that everyone carries a story into the creative space.

Mahoganee Amiger, who performs as Mahoganee, is a vocalist, songwriter, poet, visual artist, and performer from South Carolina whose folk-soul music is rooted in Gullah Geechee heritage and South Carolina history. Through "The Mahoganee Xperience", her creative practice and stage show, she works across music, poetry, performance, photography, mixed media, and education, linking the expressive arts with cultural preservation, conservation, and sustainability.

Her eye for place and story extends well beyond the stage. A published photographer, Mahoganee has seen her work appear in Earth Island Journal, the environmental magazine, a natural extension of a practice that treats the land, water, and memory of the Lowcountry as worth seeing clearly and preserving. Whether she is working through a lyric or a lens, she invites audiences to look closely at the places and people that shape Southern life.

That same commitment to community has carried her into arts leadership. Mahoganee has served as Interim Executive Director of the Beaufort Arts Council and completed an artist residency as a featured vocalist with the internationally renowned Dr. Marlena Smalls & The Hallelujah Singers, South Carolina’s Tourism Ambassadors. She is an RWJF/NCHE CoHLI Cohort 3 Fellow, a Leo Twiggs Arts Leadership Scholar, and a 2026 Music to Life Juried Artist.

 

Her leadership is informed as much by life as by title. As Andre’s wife and caregiver, she has experienced firsthand how music and the arts can steady, restore, and reconnect, and she brings that perspective to her teaching, mentorship, and advocacy. Mahoganee and Andre are currently completing their fifth album, DirtRoads, SweetGrass & SugarCane (Journee of a Gullah Geechee Songster).

Andre Amiger, known professionally as Mr. Bounce Back, is a music producer, recording engineer, and sound engineer. Through Regima Consulting Group, home of Regima Music Productions, he creates the cultural music behind Mahoganee’s songs and collaborates with her on projects that carry Gullah Geechee stories from the studio to the stage. His credits include “1619,” released in 2020, and the Technical College of the Lowcountry alma mater, commissioned in 2018.

Andre’s path has also centered on serving young people. He has worked as a Youth Care Specialist with AMI Kids and as CSP (Child Service Provider) Lead Supervisor with Wright Directions, roles that developed his skill in building trust, supporting youth through challenges, and leading teams. That experience informs the relationship-centered approach he brings to Responsible ARTistry’s camps, residencies, workshops, and Sound Clinics.

Andre’s story is, above all, one of resilience. A three-time stroke survivor, he has continued to create, produce, and mentor, with Mahoganee at his side as his wife and caregiver. His professional name, Mr. Bounce Back, carries particular resonance in light of that journey, and his presence in a room offers young people and adults alike a living example of perseverance through music.​​
